Day #45 Diabetes Insipidus Individuals with diabetes insipidus, or DI (Die/Dice) prefer ice cold beverages for unknown reasons. These patients present with polydispsia, polyuria, and persistent thirst due to an inability to concentrate urine. There is a central DI where the posterior pituitary failed to secrete ADH or nephrogenic DI where the kidneys fail to respond to ADH. Causes of central DI include tumor and Sheehan’s syndrome (ischemia) and lithium/demeclycycline for nephrogenic DI.
