Day #19 AVNRT & AVRT are Treated with Valsalva and Carotid Massage
Atrioventricular nodal reentry tachycardia (AVNRT) is caused by A reentry circuit in the AV node that depolarizes the atrium and ventricle nearly simultaneously. Atrioventricular reciprocating tachycardia (AVRT) is due to circular movement of an impulse between the AV node and the atrium through a bypass tract. Treatment for both includes Valsalva maneuver (squatting), carotid massage, or adenosine. Cardioversion is necessary is the patient is hemodynmically unstable.
